Focused

“I knew they were scheming to hurt me so I sent messengers back with this: “I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down. Why should the work come to a standstill just so I can come down to see you?”

~ Nehemiah 6:2-3 MSG

Nehemiah was on divine assignment to rebuild to walls of Jerusalem. This was a huge task that Nehemiah planned out carefully.

As the opposition saw the great work Nehemiah was accomplishing they did the only thing they knew best…hate.

However, as the scripture states, Nehemiah stayed focused on the task at hand and did not entertain anybody (or anything) that took his attention away from completing what he started.

What distractions has the devil used in your life to get you off task and lose focus of what God called you to do?

Nehemiah’s main distraction came from verbal insult.

Here’s a short list of distractions you may want to consider:

  • sleep
  • sports (playoffs)
  • women
  • job
  • business
  • friends
  • games
  • idle conversation
  • children

Whatever the distraction, lets use our discernment to identify those things that deserve our attention as well as those that deserve a cold shoulder.

Brothers, let nothing stop us from completing the great work God has called us to do.

Lets pray…

“Lord, there is no one greater than you. We have been called by your greatness to do great works. Help us to honor your calling on our lives with focus through discernment. Father, we are honored to be chosen to complete such great works. Let your will be done. Amen.”
