These chains

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”

John 8:36 ESV

I want to be free.

I’ve been living with these chains on me for as long as I can remember.

They were first placed on me by my parents telling me what I can and cannot be.

The labels my teachers placed on me made the chains tighter.

I’ve tried everything in my own strength to remove them but always ended in failure.

I look around and see everyone else living with thier chains and it doesn’t seem to bother them. It appears so normal.

So I try to accept them as my reality. Embracing the fact that these chains will always be a part of me.

Always struggling and never overcoming.

Until I met a man with no chains.

When I asked about his chains he responded with a question…

“Is your heart too hard to let me in?”

The second I replied saying ’No’ He entered into my heart and took full residence. I began to experience a joy I had never felt. A warmth from true love I always longed for.

I felt complete. Even more…I was free.

I was free from the limitations placed on me by man. Free from the generational curses. I looked at my hands and realized I was free to worship God with my whole heart and body any time.

What was impossible was now obtainable.

What I hoped for became tangible with faith.

I looked back at all those who imposed their way of life on me and played a part in keeping me chained. I felt hurt and the anger began to boil. But the peace of Christ in me allowed me to let it go.

I forgave the oppressors of my past, embraced the Savior of my life, and now walk in total freedom through forgiveness.

And you can too.

Let’s pray…

“Father thank you for setting me free. Help me to never get so familiar with my freedom that I forget it’s value. Let me never forget the days I was lost and how hopeless I was. Keep it fresh in my mind so I can empathize more with the lost I encounter. Father, I want the world the experience the love that is awaiting them. I want them to experience true freedom that can only be found in Christ. And I claim this freedom for all mankind in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
